Universal Mind Control

YES! my first music purchase of the year is a good one. I went to best buy to get a case for my psp and said "i might as well get the new common while im here", and you know what, i don't regret it at all. Just listening through this album once i can already say its one of the better albums thats come out this past year. It's kinda like a "feel good" album, common sounds like he had fun putting this album together along with executive producer pharrell williams, my personal favortie track on this album is "make my day" feat. cee-lo

'09, BRING IT ON!!

When I think about what kind of year I had in 2008, I never would have thought id be where I'm at right now. within the past 12 months I've joined 2 more non-profit orginizations (KAMP, Anakbayan San Diego ) aside from zulu which helped me grow into a better person, helped me re-identify with my filipino-american self, all thanks to the homie Ray of cool kids, who introduced me to these orgs, made new friends, got closer to old friends, I VOTED, mine and krisitne's relationship has gotten a whole lot stronger, my eyes have been opned up to things i never would have thought of in 2007, and CHANGE for me, for my community and for this country.

It's amazing how much change can happen to one person in the course of 12 months, but with these changes came more challenges. Challenges like finding a new balance in life trying to fit in friends, bboying, organizations, school, family, girlfriend, RE.DEF, yeah 2008 was a BIG year for me. Having to balance all of these helped/forced me to mature a little bit more, which isnt such a bad thing, all this change just means i learned how to write reminders, and made me realized that i need to start using an organizer haha.

A lot of growth happend this past year and much like this blog, it was unstructured, it was more like a "take it and run with it" kinda year, you know?, I didn't even think id be doing things to better my quality of life. Just like the years past one of my biggest goals was to make sure I try to keep my friends close and build on new friendships, and this year was probably the best year for this, not for the purpose of saying "OH YEAH I HAVE THIS MANY FRIENDS BLAH BLAH BLAH", naw , not me, but for the purpose of knowing who my friends REALLY are.

As Great as 2008 was, It did have its low points. One being that the Chargers lost in the AFC championship game against the patriots, ah well. Another is the san diego padres whole season, yeah having 99 looses in one season is never a good thing. There was actually a point and time this past year that i felt like I was just existing not living meaning there were some emotional breakdowns. My grandmother in the PI passed away, but i couldn't go with my family to attend her funeral because school was starting at the same time, and since the first couple weeks of school is so packed and teachers drope students not there on either the first day of class or the first week of class I just couldn't pay for my classes then get dropped :-( . but even with all that said, 2008 was still a great year

some 2008 highlights:
- joining KAMP
- joining Anakbayan SD

Filipino vs. American and Filipino identity prt. 2

"I say if you identify yourself as Filipino, who's to say that you're not? I mean sure most of us share commonalities in how we were raised and our views on things, but that doesn't necessarily make it "criteria"

- Kristine (not so small talk)

"i been through this my whole life folks always say im not good enough because i am mestizo im not full blooded im not "filipino enough" that type of shit really strikes a nerve with me because no matter what to me you are filipino weather you are half a quarter or weather you can speak the language or not"

- Daniel

"Being Filipino shouldn't be about a list of requirements, IE: 1) Speak Tagalog, 2) Eat rice, etc. It should be about the values our parents instilled in us, and the unity that our communities and families provide. You shouldn't give someone shit or call someone a fob if they have an accent, and you shouldn't give someone shit and not call them Filipino if they don't speak Tagalog. "
- Lance (the coolest kids in the room)

These quotes i took from the comments section in my previous post had really good points in my opinion. My personal opinion is i am Filipino, American second. I figure my parents are Filipino, therefore i am. I mean my whole life my family has tried their best to instill Filipino traditions/values and the Filipino way of life while trying to balance American ideologies and quite frankly i think they did a good job. I identify as Filipino and no i don't believe that there is a certain criteria you have to follow to be considered filipin@. It's unfortunate that pin@ys from the Philippines don't see us (fil-ams) as FILIPIN@, but rather they see us as Americans and only Americans. As much as it is unfair that they see us as only Americans, we in turn look at them differntly because they aren't from here, what is it? is it because he/she talks with an accent they are different, when in reality, WE should be learning from them. Insead of us detatching ourselves from our "filipinoness" we should be embracing it, love it, be proud of it. The blood of our acestors runs deep within us, their struggles, and their history is apart of OUR lives.

MABUHAY!

HISTORY + CHANGE + PROGRESS = 44

As im typing this blog, the fact that PRESIDENT OBAMA is our new president is still sinking in. After all the elections, all the campaigns, a candidate that not necessarily looks like me, but definitely someone that probably shared MY experiences, and MY struggles as an american of color is finally a person of power. It's so refreshing to see this happen to our generation, we have a story to be to tell our children,as this day will forever be in our children's history books.

From here on out the number 44 will be connected with the first african-american president of the united states of america, no longer will the number 44 be just another number, or the eventual president, or another channel on your cable tv, but 44 means hope, change, and progress. Yes President Obama has a lot on his shoulders, and Yes we still have to see how he does the next for years, but there is now HOPE for this country, eventual CHANGE will happen in this country weather its good change or bad change, change nonetheless.

As for me, this is probably just the beginning of getting into politics. Only time will tell where i stand for the next presidential election, but as of now, gObama 08!

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

If only

it's election day, but what if the whole world could vote?

well the whole world can't vote for our country's next president, but here is an interesting website that can do that, although the votes don't count it's still interesting to see what the rest of the world thinks about our presidential candiates.
IF THE WORLD COULD VOTE

i think you'll be surprised who the world wants to be our next president. ENJOY!
